Outer Banks Surfing Instruction - FAQ
Q. How long does it take to learn to surf?

A. With the help of a knowledgeable instructor one can ride a small wave in the first lesson.
To become an accomplished surfer one must devote some time to it just like any other sport.
Q. Do I have to be a good swimmer?

A. Yes. You must also be comfortable in the ocean. We will only teach beginners in waves of one
to two feet. Even though you are connected to your board by a surf leash you should be able to
swim to shore. In small surf this is normally less than 100 yards. We also will assist you
with your swimming technique. Swimming in the ocean is different than a pool or lake.
Q. Can I learn to surf?

A. If you are in reasonably good physical condition and have the desire, you can.
Q. What about sea life?

A. The waters of The Outer Banks are not populated with dangerous sea life. There can be the
occasional outbreak of jellyfish. These are not generally very potent.
